About

Sometimes paying more is stupid.
Sometimes it's worth every penny.

Splurged exists to find out which — one product at a time.

We investigate food at the expensive end: Ruby Roman grapes, three-year cheese, and £4 crisps that claim to be better. Every preview compares the product against an everyday equivalent and computes a Price Multiplier — how many of the normal version you could buy instead.

Sometimes the multiplier is a warning. Sometimes it points to an affordable treat — the current 36–42-month Comté works out at £3 for a 62.5g portion. We don't worship expensive food. We investigate it.

Splurged is the third of three sister sites: Unfleeced helps you spend less, FreshToday helps you buy fresh and local, and Splurged finds the things worth paying more for.

We're independent and unsponsored. Every product now carries the direct source checked on 27 August 2026 and clearly says whether it was verified, corrected, historic or unavailable. Taste scores stay unpublished until the product has actually been tasted.
